Acadmey of Finance Request

I am writing to respectfully request your help once again for my Academy of Finance Careers (AFC) students at Tallmadge High School (THS).   In early February, you kindly blasted out our Fundraise Genius flyer to Chamber members prior to the students’ BPA State competitions.  That fundraiser ended last week while my students were at the BPA State Leadership Conference.  Although I’m thrilled to report that four of my students, all seniors, qualified to advance to the BPA National competition in May, we are still short funded.  Would you please consider sending out the attached new flyer to raise awareness and potential financial assistance that benefits my students?  This flyer is updated with pictures of the four seniors who won their contests at the BPA state level and have qualified to advance.

As our fundraiser with Fundraise Genius ended on February 23, all new donations should be made payable to Tallmadge High School – with the instruction (item line at the bottom of a check or in a brief note) “FOB of the AFC.”  Donations could be mailed to the high school to my attention – Kim Brendel or directly to the MEC building with an email to me at [email protected] so I may inform Maria McNulty in the Treasurer’s office to expect it.  Please know that the AFC program is on track to grow enrollment substantially next year and with additional students I expect our fundraising to improve so that we can better fund BPA travel in the future.

The following provides information about how the AFC program benefits the Tallmadge Community:

1)      Every March, my students organize and host the annual THS Job and Career Fair that brings together local employers with our student population.   *I founded this event at THS in 2005 with former business students.

2)      Recognizing the importance of learning financial literacy for a financially stable future, my students teach a day of related lessons to the entire TES fifth grade in December, and a targeted lesson to THS freshmen and sophomores in Business Foundations classes at the high school.

3)      The AFC is partnered with New Horizon Federal Credit Union and AFC students operate a credit union branch in THS to provide banking needs for students and staff.  Having a bank account is an important step towards financial wellness for any individual – and we are honored to provide this service.

Please know that any assistance in helping my hard working students reach their goal of competing at the NLC is greatly appreciated.  Should you require additional information or have any questions regarding this correspondence, please do not hesitate to contact me at (office) 330.633.5505 ext. 1602, (cell) 330.329.3323 or via email at [email protected].    Thank you kindly for your time and consideration.

Best regards
